- The socks you don’t see above? Those are the no-shows by Mack Weldon, which recently showed up on my doorstep. Going sockless is essential here in Southern California, but the damage I’ve been doing to my feet and shoes is no bueno. But I’ve also found no-show socks aren’t a guaranteed solution, slipping out of place or being too bulky to hide. So when I took the Mack Weldons for a spin—literally, as I frequently bike around Long Beach to work at coffee shops, run errands, etc.—I was curious to see if they’d: A) fit; and B) stay in place. The answers: yes and yes. I gave them a stiff test, pairing them with my low-profile Jack Purcells, which are unforgiving to most no-show socks. But the socks did their job, staying in place thanks to a slip-free insert on the heel. And at $14.50 for two pair, they’re minimal investment. High recommendation here || Mack Weldon: No-Show Socks
- Man, there are some creative folks out there doing some thought-provoking stuff. Half the time, it inspires me; the other half, it makes me want to fold up shop here at little ol’ J&T. One of the sites I’ve recently been impressed with is this one, run by friendly fella John Peabody. Former full-time media guy breaks out on his own to write about interesting people and things. Sounds familiar… || The Hand & Eye
- As mandated by law in SoCal, I’ve taken to using avocados in just about everything—breakfast smoothies, lunch salads, dinner burritos and even occasional drinks. Do I need them in my margaritas now too? || Austinist: How to Make Avocado Margaritas at Home
- I like featuring lesser-known longreads in this final spot, but I couldn’t resist this ESPN story. Dark reminder that social media lives look one way, but people another, yo || ESPN: Split Image
